Why the Tanzanian Hass Avocado

Our Tanzanian Hass Avocados are cultivated in the volcanic highlands of the Mbeya, Njombe, and Iringa regions. This altitude provides the ideal cool-tropical climate that allows the fruit to mature slowly, developing a high oil content (>21%) and a rich, nutty flavor.

Distinctive for its pebbly skin that turns from green to purplish-black when ripe, our Hass variety is selected specifically for its durability during sea freight. Every fruit is harvested at strict dry matter levels to ensure uniform ripening and exceptional eating quality upon arrival at international destinations.

Understanding Hass Avocado seasons in Tanzania

Avorito capitalizes on Tanzania’s unique counter-seasonal window, allowing us to supply markets when production in other major regions is low.
-Early Season (March – April): Harvest begins in lower altitude zones. Fruit is fresh, with lower oil content, ideal for immediate consumption.
-Peak Season (May – July): High volume availability across all zones. Optimal oil content and size range.
-Late Season (August – September): Harvest from high-altitude zones. Fruit has maximum oil content and maturity.

Our Quality assurance

Quality is not just a checkmark; it is our process. Our control measures start in the field and end only when the seal is placed on the container.
-Field Testing: Pre-harvest dry matter testing to ensure maturity.
-Packhouse Grading: Automated weight sizing and manual sorting to remove physical defects (Class 1 vs. Class 2).
-Cold Chain: Fruit is hydro-cooled immediately after harvest and maintained at 5.5°C throughout the supply chain to arrest ripening.
-Compliance: All shipments are accompanied by Phytosanitary Certificates and meet GlobalG.A.P. residue limits.
